I like to read and learn new things. I have an inexhaustible curiosity.

I spent a lot of time on places like Wikipedia and encyclopedias before., and edit it too.

I also like to go on long bike rides and hikes in the outdoors.

I have social media, but I chose to start a blog because I wanted more space than a tweet or insta caption.

vemodalen is a word I got from the dictionary of obscure sorrows and it means “the fear or frustation of taking a photograph that has been taken a thousand times before” which is a feeling every traveller and photographer knows well. You’ve hiked for hours and stand upon an amazing sight, but you know your camera can never do it justice and worse, you’ve already seen thousand of pictures taken from that spot. It can be discouraging, but just because thousands of people have done it before doesn’t mean you shouldn’t. Thousands have, but you haven’t. maybe your photos won’t be perfect, or unique, but they’ll be yours.

So that’s my thesis. that my work has value. even if it’s only to me for producing it. I’m here to rebel against that feeling and carry on working.

I hail from a small city in the south of Chile called Valdivia.

Valdivia is one of the rainiest cities in the world for it’s climate. it’s a temperate oceanic climate which means lots of rain and cloudy skies, with extreme temperatures being a rarity. until a few years ago even having two whole weeks of sun in the summer was rare. most of the other cities with this climate get half the rain.

this is not a travel blog, this is about exploration. I have travelled to wonderful places, but I also find great joy in wandering around my city and nearby towns.

I want to share what I see, my creative work, my thoughts.

Me gusta leer, aprender, y explorar el mundo. en mi bici en particular.

Paso tiempo en lugares como Wikipedia (y enciclopedias) y similares , complaciendo mi curiosidad.

He estado editando también.

Decidí empezar un blog ya que me gusta escribir y quería un espacio mas amplio que un tweet o descripción de insta.

la definición de “vemodalen” segun the dictionary of obscure sorrows, es “el miedo o la frustración de tomar una foto que ha sido tomada mil veces antes” y mi premisa aquí es simplemente luchar contra esa idea.

que mi trabajo tiene valor, aunque sea sólo para mí por producirlo.

y claro, que es muy distinto ver videos o fotos de una experiencia y experimentarla tu mismo. aunque las fotos no lo reflejen la experiencia queda.

Vengo de Valdivia, en el Sur de Chile.

La Perla del Sur.

Recientemente nombrada Ciudad Humedal.

La Ciudad mas hermosa de Chile, y la más lluviosa también. Esta a nivel del mar, a sólo 15km de la costa. Junto a la costa tenemos Niebla, técnicamente un barrio de la ciudad, y al frente Corral, una ciudad puerto pequeña.

Aún con los efectos del cambio climático, dónde la lluvia ha bajado de 2500 a 1700, sigue siendo una enorme cantidad en comparación a otras del mismo clima. El clima templado oceánico significa que tenemos muchos días nublados y pocos días con temperaturas extremas. días con mas de 30 es raro, y menos de 0 también.

tan raro que seguimos recordando la vez que cayo nieve en la ciudad, en 1995.

Fue justo el día que celebrábamos el cumpleaños de mi hermano, y fue para nosotros fantástico.

después me enteré que se le llamo al evento “terremoto blanco” y causo grandes problemas.

desde entonces ha nevado un par más de veces, pero en las montañas, nunca más en la ciudad.

Aquí sólo llueve de manera interminable.

Es lo que nos hace tan verdes, y crea el siempreverde Bosque Valdiviano.

Esto no es un blog de viajes, aunque sí planeo hablar de ellos, es una bitácora de exploración por que mucho del contenido será local, yo compartiendo mi ciudad, cosas interesantes de la región, harta exploración local, y otras veces contenido más histórico.

La idea es compartir esencialmente lo que me llame la atención. he estado buscando y he encontrado que hay poca información disponible, y es algo que quiero cambiar.
